FIRST WORLD WOMEN'S CHESS TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP (c) WCTCW

Eduard Rossel, Governor of Sverdlovsk region opened the tournament. He made the first move in the game of Tatyana Kosintseva and Elizabeth Petz.

Start games of the 1st World Women’s Team Chess Championship took place.

The shortest game in the first round was the game between China and Vietnam. On the 4th board Sheng Yang and Nguen Thi Thanh An made peace. Chinese team was evidently stronger in all other games of this match and they won with the score 3.5/0.5. Russian team easily won German participants with the score 3/1. Tatyana Kosintseva and Nadezhda Kosintseva played draw with Elizabeth Petz and Ketino Kachiani-Gersinska correspondingly; Ekaterina Korbut won Jessika Nill and Ekaterina Kovalevskaya won Shone-Maria Randi.

After 7-hour battle between chess players of Ukraine and Armenia Ukraine team at last won with the score 3/1. Georgia team played with members of Czech Republic team. Maya Chiburdanidze won, served as a good example to the whole team and as a result players of Georgia won with the score 2.5/1.5. Grand masters of Poland crushed representatives of Botswana 4/0. There was not any draw in the matches of the first round. It just confirmed that we are in for uncompromised battles of other rounds.

In one of the matches of the first round Russian team played with representatives of Germany. Russian grand masters won at the end. Two experienced players took part in a press conference

Ekaterina Kovalevskaya and Elizabeth Petz about the first game and about the tournament

- Ekaterina what are your impressions of the start game at the 1^st World Women’s Team Championship?

- The first round is always difficult, we must make our minds. But this start game was without surprises. We managed to realize what we planned and to win with black.

- What can you say about opponents? Is the difference in the class so obvious that you won 3:1?

- I respect our opponents and do not think that the class difference is great. Two first boards are very strong in the team of Germany, other ones are a bit weaker. We disposed ourselves to have a serious battle and so realized the plan.

- What do you think about fundamental confrontation with Chinese team tomorrow?

- We always have serious matches with Chinese players. We have been competing with them for several years. The composition of Chinese team is known, most of team members play in the Russian Club Championship. I saw how they play and know how to compete with them. Tomorrow there will be a complicated equal battle.

- Elizabeth, are you satisfied with the result of your game?  

- Yes, draw is good in this situation. I managed to surprise my opponent in the beginning and to receive a good position. During the game with Tatyana Kosintseva you must be very careful and I did it.

 - What can you say about match with Russian team?

- Russian team is very experienced and strong. It is very complicated to play with its members. We lost fairly but will try to indicate ourselves in the following rounds.  - You speak Russian so fluently.

- Ekaterina what are your impressions of the start game at the 1^st World Women’s Team Championship?

- I had been learning Russian for the first 4 years in my school. And I play for Russian team also. I had been learning Russian for the first 4 years in my school. And I play for Russian team also.

The 1st World Women’s Team Chess Championship has begun!

Today the grand opening ceremony of the 1st World Team Championship for Women took place. The ceremony amazed participants and guests of the championship by its beauty and grand scale (laser show, performance of acrobats etc).

Today the foundation stone of the Urals Chess Academy has been laid. Academy will have an international status.

Eduard Rossel, Governor of Sverdlovsk region and Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, FIDE President took part in this ceremony.

The building of the first chess Academy is a new step in the development of not only chess but also sport in the whole. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov declared that this Academy will be international and will function under the aegis of FIDE. Eduard Rossel told, “:We already have parameters and exact territory, soon it will be put into exploitation, I hope real champions will come out of this Academy”.

Ekaterina Kovalevskaya: “We will compete for gold!”

On the threshold of the championship we talked by phone with the most experienced player of our team Ekaterina Kovalevskaya.

At the end of May for the 1st time in the history of chess World Women’s Team ChessChampionship will be held in Yekaterinburg . Fifty best chess players will come to the Urals to compete for the title of the best team in the world. The participants are teams from Armenia, Botswana, Vietnam, Germany, Georgia, China, Poland, Russia, and Czech Republic. The members of the Russian team are Ekaterina Kovalevskaya, Tatiana Kosintseva, Nadezhda Kosintseva, Ekaterina Korbut and Elena Tairova.

Andrey Selivanov: The main task of Russia is to win!

On the 19th of May the 1st World Women’s Team Chess Championship begins. On the eve of this unique event we talked to the person who exactly knows what women chess is and what perspective it has in Russia. Andrey Selivanov, Vice-president of FIDE, Honorary President of Russian Chess Federation, repeated world champion in chess composition answered our questions.
